Reimagining Georgia O’Keeffe & Alfred Stieglitz: 2014 Opens at Icehouse Artspace in Sarasota
Exhibition Explores the Lives and Works of Two Iconic Figures of American Art Through a Contemporary Lens
Sarasota, February 5, 2014: This 10-day art exhibition navigates through the lives and works of two of the most influential artists of their time, and ours—Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz. O'Keeffe was one of two abstract painters in America 100 years ago. She went on to create iconic landscapes of the West. Stieglitz was the first to show the art of Rodin, Picasso and Matisse in America, and he fought to have critics recognize photography as "artistic."
Imagine if O’Keeffe & Stieglitz had the resources and technology available today to create art. What would it look like? How would they continue to push the envelope of creativity? Those questions were posed to 20 artists from around the world who have collaborated with Alfstad& Productions to create original 100 works of art, including paintings, photography, silkscreen prints, ink jet paintings, airbrush renderings, sculpture, installation art, video art and digital video art, aero videography, seven performances by the Fuzion Dance Artists and three one-woman shows by Sarasota actress Jenny Aldrich as Georgia O’Keeffe.
This multifaceted exhibition consists of 21 series of works that construct a story of exploration: about Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz and the impact they continue to have on present day artists. A few (not all) of the series explored include: The Story of Stripes, Jazz Stripes, The Stripes Videos, The Warhol Series, Elvis / Yentl / Georgia, Flower Series, O’Keeffe Country: An Aero View, The Iridescent Series, Airbrushed Portrait Series, The Equivalents Series, The New Mexico Series, The Hands Series and The Letters Installation. Prepare to be delighted by unexpected combinations of the old and new.
